Suicide is a major health problem in Colorado; in fact, the Rocky Mountain States have the highest rates in the country. In Colorado, 940 people died by suicide in 2009, exceeding the number of deaths caused by motor vehicle accidents. Last year in Boulder County 50 persons died of suicide. Many of these deaths could have been prevented if people had received the help they needed.
