Mental Health Partners Notifies Clients and Employees of Data Security Incident BOULDER, COLORADO: August 24, 2020 – Mental Health Partners (“MHP”) has learned of a data security incident that may have impacted personal and protected health information belonging to some current and former MHP clients and employees. MHP has sent notification of this incident to potentially impacted individuals and has provided resources to assist them. In late March of 2020, MHP learned of unusual activity involving a MHP employee’s email account. MHP immediately began an investigation and took steps to secure all MHP employee email accounts. MHP also engaged an independent computer forensics firm to conduct an investigation and, as a result, learned that six MHP employee email accounts had been accessed without authorization. On July 22, 2020, following an extensive review of the contents of these accounts, MHP learned that information belonging to some current and former MHP clients and employees was contained in the impacted email accounts. MHP then took steps to identify current mailing addresses in order to notify potentially impacted individuals. While there is no evidence of the misuse of any information potentially involved in this incident, on August 21, 2020, MHP sent notification letters to the potentially impacted individuals. Based on the investigation of the incident, the following personal and protected health information may have been involved in the incident: names; dates of birth; Social Security numbers; driver’s license or state identification card numbers; passport numbers; financial account information; medical record numbers; medical treatment information, including symptom, diagnosis, treatment, medication, and doctor information; and/or health insurance information. MHP takes the security of client and employee information very seriously and is taking steps to prevent a similar event from occurring in the future. In addition, the notification letters MHP sent to potentially affected individuals include information about steps that individuals can take to protect their personal information. MHP has established a toll-free call center to answer questions about the incident and to address related concerns. Please notify your financial institution immediately if you detect any suspicious activity on any of your accounts, including unauthorized transactions or new accounts opened in your name that you do not recognize. You should also promptly report any fraudulent activity or any suspected incidents of identity theft to proper law enforcement authorities.
