Mental Health Partners Opens UrgentPsych: Mental Health and Substance Use Urgent Care

New program increases access to immediate care and bridges gaps in acute services for the community

LAFAYETTE, Colo., February 28, 2024 Mental Health Partners (MHP), the community mental health center for Boulder and Broomfield counties, has launched a new program, UrgentPsych: Mental Health and Substance Use Urgent Care. This new community resource expands MHP’s continuum of acute care by increasing access for individuals with urgent needs to receive in-person treatment with immediacy. UrgentPsych is housed in the same location as MHP’s Walk-In Crisis and Addiction Services Center at 3180 Airport Rd, Boulder, CO, 80301.

Core services provided by UrgentPsych include therapy, psychiatric and medication evaluations, and case management. One does not need to be a current client of MHP to receive services. UrgentPsych can treat all community members regardless of their payor, insurance coverage (or lack thereof), or language needs.

With parallels to physical health urgent care services, UrgentPsych bridges the gap between emergency situations that require crisis intervention or hospitalization and outpatient services with one’s established care provider. A key objective in the launch of UrgentPsych is to provide increased access to client-centered care.

“When people in our community face mental health or substance use-related struggles, it’s often hard to know where to go or who to turn to for help,” said Nadia Haddad, MD, Medical Director at MHP. “When someone needs help today, we don’t want them on a waitlist or worrying about their insurance coverage, ability to pay, or how they can navigate operating hours that directly overlap with their work schedules. Instead, we know it’s important for our community members to have the option to walk-in for quality care, quickly getting the help they need.”

Accordingly, MHP also took steps to ease the intake process, expand hours to include evening and weekends, and strategically locate the program. By co-locating UrgentPsych with MHP’s existing crisis care and withdrawal management services, UrgentPsych ensures there is “no wrong door” for community members to quickly receive care for various levels of crisis support.

“We’re proud to be opening UrgentPsych within our established acute care network,” said Ronnie Vasquez, Director of Acute Services at MHP. “It provides us with the opportunity to offer the community more options for mental health and substance use care all under one roof. Community members who self-identify as needing urgent or crisis care will be more efficiently assessed by a mental health expert and can receive the appropriate level of care without experiencing undue burden, such as needing to be referred to another location so they can be connected with the ‘right’ program.”

UrgentPsych: Mental Health and Substance Use Urgent Care is open 12:00-8:00pm, 7 days per week (excluding holidays).

If you or a loved one are experiencing a crisis, please call or text 988 or visit the 24/7 Walk-In Crisis and Addiction Services Center at 3180 Airport Rd, Boulder, CO, 80301.
