Mental Health Partners Hosting Nationally Respected Experts on Suicide Ideation and Prevention

Mental Health Partners Hosting Nationally Respected Experts on Suicide Ideation and Prevention

A free panel discussion on the topic of suicide ideation and prevention, particularly among youth and adults in traditionally under-resourced and minoritized communities

Mental Health Partners (MHP), the community mental health provider serving Boulder and Broomfield counties, is hosting a free virtual webinar on the topic of suicide ideation and prevention – specifically in historically under-resourced and minoritized communities – on Monday, October 3rd, 2022, at 3pm (Mountain time).

This webinar will be moderated by Sara D. Anderson, MHP’s Vice President of Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (JEDI). She will be joined by three nationally recognized expert panelists:

  • Kathryn Fox, PhD, from the University of Denver, whose focus is on LGBTQ+ youth
  • Brandon Johnson, M.H.S, MCHES, an advisor at the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) who has led numerous projects to specifically prevent suicide among African American youth
  • Caroline Silva, PhD, from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, who is currently developing suicide prevention interventions for at-risk individuals who identify as Hispanic/Latinx

Each panelist will speak for approximately 15 minutes, allowing five minutes for questions specific to that speaker. At the conclusion of the panel presentations, there will be 15 minutes for additional questions and comments.

“When analyzing the statistics and data around mental health and all that it encompasses (and doesn’t), BIPOC folks are disproportionately affected,” said Sara D. Anderson, MHP’s VP of JEDI. “When you add in additional intersecting identities, the effects of this disproportionality are detrimental and alarming. That’s why conversations like these are critically important – not just among mental health professionals, but the community at-large.”

This webinar is free and open to the public, and it will take place online via Zoom. Registration closes on September 30th at 4pm. Spanish and ASL translation services will be provided.
